SunZhou Precision Machining helped a start-up company produce high-precision stainless steel components with ±0.02 mm tolerance and a high level of brush appearance.
Customer Background:
The customer is a start-up company, needs only 2 pcs of sample, which are high-quality outer components. It needs a brush, and the brush effect must be strictly linear, single direction. Meanwhile, it can not impact the chamfer. The Chamfer must remain visually defined after finishing. The whole part must look uniform, refined, and soft, just like luxurious and elegant.

What Problem We Met:
The brush appearance effect is far from what we expected when we use the industry brush machine, because of:
- Tight tolerance: ±0.02 mm
- Brush on U-shape and curved / production-like surface
- Hard material of 316L
Especial the Curved / production-like shape, make the whole part is difficult to subject to force; the 316L material is hard, making brush look light.
If we give more force to the part, we can see a better brush appearance, but this would cause another issue: the deformation of this curved surface. An industry brush machine may not work on these tiny parts.
How We Solve It:
After trying and failed many times, we decided to brush it by hand.
- Then we can control the brushing force from all angle.
- Observe the brushing effect, and stop to check at any time, whole process is controlled.
- Thus the curved surface is not a problem, and it would not have the problem of deformation.
- Both the front and back sides can be brushed.
Thus, we found the expert who repairs the watch. As we know, many luxury watches have beautiful brushed finishes.
Ultimately, the hand-rubbing process for this component took one hour, and the cost was several times higher than our quoted price.
It doesn’t matter since we have promised the customer that we can do it, we will find a way to finish it, and meet the requirements.
Summary:
This is not a huge case. There is no very strict size control, and it doesn’t demonstrate how advanced our processing capabilities are. However, I want to share it because I hope to show you how we treat customers — with our hearts.
In this AI era, we can ask AI any technical questions, and almost all knowledge is transparent. Moreover, in China, the CNC industry is already very mature, and ordinary CNC manufacturing won’t have any problems.
So, how to maintain competition in such an environment? It is the way you treat customers and problems.
In addition to basic conditions, such as quality control and machining capacity, another key point we must consider is whether your project is treated with care.
